Jesuit Vocation - Help & Accompaniment
Prayer of Bl. Pierre Favre SJ
With great devotion and new depth of feeling,
I hope and beg, O God, that it finally be given me
To be the servant and minister of Christ the consoler,
The minister of Christ the redeemer,
The minister of Christ the healer,
The liberator, the enricher, the strengthener.
To be able through you to help many –
To console, liberate and give them courage;
To bring them light not only for their spirit
But also for their bodies,
And bring as well other helps to the soul and body of each and every one of my neighbours.
I ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer of St. Claude la Colombière SJ
My God, I believe most firmly that you watch over all who hope in you, and that we can want for nothing when we rely upon you in all things. Therefore I am resolved for the future to cast all my cares upon you.
Prayer of Fr. Pedro Arrupe SJ
Grant me, O Lord, to see everything now with new eyes,
to discern and test the spirits that help me read the signs of the times,
to relish the things that are yours and to communicate them to others.
Give me the clarity of understanding that you gave St. Ignatius.
Prayer of Thomas Merton
My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right road, ‘though I may know nothing about it. Therefore, I will trust you always, ‘though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.
Thomas Merton (1915-1968)
